Work on the Water with Savannah Oyster Company
If you love early mornings on the marsh, know your way around a small boat, and don’t mind a little salt water and mud, you’ll fit right in. Savannah Oyster Company is hiring a hands-on team member to help us raise and harvest premium oysters in the tidal creeks around Savannah and the barrier islands.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with daily farm operations: setting, flipping, sorting, and harvesting oyster cages
- Pilot or crew on a 25’ work skiff and smaller craft to and from farm sites
- Wash, grade, and pack oysters for delivery to restaurants and markets
- Maintain gear, docks, and work areas; load/unload equipment and product
- Work safely in a dynamic marine environment and changing tides
What We’re Looking For
- Genuine love of being on the water and respect for coastal ecosystems
- Small-craft handling experience (tiller/console skiffs, jon boats, or similar)
- Reliability: shows up on time, self-starter, communicates clearly
- Own transportation to/from our dock or shop
- Comfort outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and sun
- Physical ability to lift ~50 lbs, stand, bend, and work on uneven, wet surfaces
- Safety-minded with good situational awareness around boats and equipment
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Savannah’s tides and waterways (Wilmington River, Bull River, etc.)
- Basic knot tying, line handling, and boat trailering/launching
- Experience on working waterfronts, farms, or in outdoor labor
